There is no better way to capture the beauty, purity, and essence of the Peruvian Amazon Jungle than through photos. The wildlife of the jungle is the spirit of the jungle and words alone cannot do it justice. These are photos from our 4-day/3-night stay in the Tambopata Nature Preserve in the Madre de Dios region of Peru. For more photos, especially with people in them, check out my instagram @runnerwithreiselust Enjoy! 🙂
The Rio Tambopata. Entering the river at a pueblo called “Infierno” (pssst..that translates to ‘Hell’)
First Macao siting! More to come. I am basically obsessed with their colors.
Howler Monkeys crashing through the trees
Take-off!
Photographing with that giant lens when beauty is right on top of you. Do you see the irony?
Sunrise over Lago Tres Chimbatas
A family of Giant River otters that lives on Lago Tres Chimbatas
Yawning or yelling?
When you go fishing for piranha, catch them, and learn how razor sharp their tiny little teeth are….
A few of Bird of Peru living around the lake…
Another monkey spotting! This time a little tamarind
View of the Tambopata from a Canopy Tower
Photos from our trip to the parrot clay lick at 6:00 a.m. Parrots (and macau’s!) gather here early in the morning to socialize and eat clay. Thought to neutralize toxins in their stomachs from all the crazy berries and bugs these guys eat. Just seemed like a big parrot party to me!
One of my favorite photos! Very Jurassic Park looking!
It may not be apparent to some (sarcasm) but that is a SLOTH!!!! I saw a SLOTH in the WILD!! Its ok if you see a brown blob, that’s all I see too, but the guide knew it was a SLOTH and therefore, in my heart, I do too 🙂 🙂 🙂
I’ve got a thing for these love birds <3That is some serious camouflage!
The mother of the jungle, the Kapok (Ceiba) tree. This beauty is over 400 years old.
And this giant tarantula is living inside that Kapok tree! Its roommate is a frog that we didn’t get to meet. Isn’t symbiosis fascinating?!
Speaking of symbiosis, these fire ants live in unity with these trees. Clearly attacking anything that invades their space, like that twig sticking out!
Oh yeah, just a pile of baby caimans and their older sibling. Lounging on the riverbank.
The next few are from our trip to an Organic Farm along the Tambopata. I only captured a few on my Nikon but we saw everything from bananas to avocado to cocoa to sugar cane (which by the way is insanely delicious raw)!
Starfruit and Papaya, fresh off the tree. With a banana leaf as a cutting board!Winking at me or one eye?
So long Tambopata. You’ve left an imprint that will last a lifetime.

It’s perfect time to make some plans for the future and
it is time to be happy. I’ve read this post and if I could
I want to suggest you few interesting things or tips.
Perhaps you could write next articles referring to this article.
